This news article appeared in the New York Times on March 26, 1955 reporting on the oldest known New Testament Bible written in the language "used by Christ".  The article noted how it was taken to the White House where President Eisenhower viewed it.  The Bible was said to be insured for "an hour and a half" in the amount of $1,500,000 US dollars.

The President of the USA commented on "the beautiful state of preservation" of the doeskin and the "still fresh" appearance of the red ink made by the scribe who penned it.

Codex simply means that it is a bound New Testament Bible as opposed to a scroll format, it was transported by a heavily guarded motorcade to the steps of the Library of Congress for a handing-over ceremony.

The Acting Librarian of Congress was a Mr. Verner Clapp who signed a receipt to take possession of the codex.  Douglas L. Hatch who was the attorney for the Aramaic Bible Foundation said that it was "being loaned with no expectation of ever taking it back."

Mr. Hatch explained that the Aramaic Bible Foundation had contracted to purchase the codex from the owner and they were then in the process of raising money to make the payment.  They also intended to make copies available to educational institutions and make a translation for printing and distribution.

A group of scholars had examined the codex on behalf of the Library of Congress and verified that it was authentic.  They stated that the text was the "standardized (Peshitta) form of the Aramaic-Syriac version of the New Testament.

The experts were convinced that a translation would clarify some New Testament expressions.  Mr. Hatch pointed out an example how the Aramaic clarifies things by offering the example that the word "camel" and "rope" were  "similar in the language used at the time of Christ."

He noted that the figure of speech Y'shua (Jesus) used in reference to the rich man's challenge to enter into heaven would have better been translated, "It is easier for a rope to go through the eye of a needle."  Obviously it makes no sense to speak of a camel going through the eye of a needle.

The Yonan Codex was believed to have been stored for centuries in a church in Urmia which is an Aramaic community located in Northwest Iran but was uprooted by the Kurds in 1918.

It is believed that the Yonan family took the ancient New Testament codex and fled with it to Iraq, then they brought it from there to the United States of America.

When the Khabouris Codex was first revealed to America in April 1955 it was referred to as "the NT Time Bomb1" in a newspaper article

for VERY good reason.

Reverend Frederick Brown Harris Chaplain to the US Senate wrote:  "More profound in its final significance than the test of any instrument of deadly destruction on the Nevada desert was a recent April scene in the Capitol of the Nation... It is a record to make the heart leap with excitement.  Somehow, it is like hearing the One whose birth broke the ages in two, talking to our modern age without a language barrier between.  Here is not a translation of the words, but the words themselves of that One who under the blue sky of Israel2 declared:  My words shall not pass away.  They are spirit and they are life... What treasures will be found as the very language of Jesus is studied can only be imagined."

Bus Bearing Aged Bible to Start 48-State Visit

The Washington Post and Times Herald Nov 29, 1955

"A bus that will carry the oldest known Aramaic New Testament on a nation-wide tour was christened "The Spirit of Galilee" yesterday on the Capitol Plaza... The ancient manuscript, hand-written in Aramaic-the language spoken by Jesus Christ-has been called the most priceless document in Christendom..."

The American people began to discover

that the original New Testament Bible was written in Aramaic, but something happened that stopped the growing interest in the Aramaic Bible.

Regardless of the religious politics that blocked dialogue and tried to discredit the ancient Aramaic New Testament, it has survived

and now begins to flourish!

The Aramaic English New Testament (AENT) Bible by Andrew Gabriel Roth is a study edition with 1104 pages, nearly 1700 footnotes

and 350 pages of appendixes.

After you've read this Bible and compared

it to the others, you will understand

why it was not well received by the Greek

based religious status quo.

The AENT is a life changing experience for many Christians, Jews and non-religious people.  Anyone interested in the original teachings of Y'shua Mashiyach (Jesus Christ) will find the Aramaic English New Testament to be a precious resource.  It answers so many questions!

Andrew Gabriel Roth is one of the worlds foremost Aramaic scholars who by the watchful eye of countless Bible students and scholars has carefully translated and explained difficult elements of both Hebrew and Aramaic language for English speakers.

Hidden poetry (1900 years old) within the New Testament is now accessible to all English readers, all in one New Testament Bible that took

over a decade to complete!

Read it and judge for yourself.

You'll be glad you did.

2The Chaplain's quote referred to Israel as Palestine.

3"The Khabouris Manuscript is a copy of a second century New Testament, which was written in approximately 165 AD (internally documented as 100 years after the great persecution of the Christians by Nero, in 65 AD).  Carbon dating has found this copy of the New Testament to be approximately 1,000 years old.  Given its origins, this would make it a copy of the oldest known New Testament manuscript." “But the hour is coming,

and now is when

the true worshippers

will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, indeed.  For the Father, He seeks worshippers as these.

For Elohim is Spirit, and those who worship, they must worship Him

in spirit and in truth.”

Yochanan (John) 4:23-24
